Just how safe is Hungary?

We collected some statistics about safety and security issues in Hungary. The Global Peace Index (GPI) is calculated by an independent, non-profit organization called the IEP (Institute for Economics and Peace). This ranking shows how safe a country is based on many indicators such as terrorism, economy or politics. Hungary occupies the 15th place of this ranking (with the UK coming in 41st, and the USA checking in at 114th). (http://visionofhumanity.org/indexes/global-peace-index/)

British newspaper Daily Star published an article with the following title: “How dangerous is your holiday? 10 safe travel destinations with low threat of terrorism”. This ranking is based on data of The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO, Foreign Ministry of UK). Hungary is in the 9th place, with the following recommendation:

“Historic cities such as Budapest are full of architectural beauty and further afield, the European country offers stunning countryside. There is a low threat from terrorism in Hungary, but you should be aware of the risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks which could be in public areas, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travelers. There is considered to be a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria. You should be vigilant at this time.”
